SearchStatus a Firefox Extension
This small article of mine is based on direct experience..
Iinclusion of your site in certain "Web Directories".
Many of these lists force you to connect to their index page with a Follow link, but they do not do likewise with you. They simply link to you with a No Follow connection.
The difference between Follow links and No Follow links is very simple: the first type allows page rank to be transferred to your site; for example, if I register in a directory higher than my page rank, in theory my site ought to benefit in terms of increased popularity.
The second type (No Follow) is no use to me unless I am only interested in being included in an endless list of my competitors, in which a visitor is highly unlikely to enter and click precisely on my profile.
So if you thought (as I did, in fact, until I discovered what really happens) you would increase your page rank by exchanging links with some of these directories (some of which are very important, with a PR between 5 and 6), then you are on the wrong track.
How did I find this all out? By a simple Firefox plug in, Search Status.
All you do is install it, and once Firefox has started up, this small bar will be visible on the right, at the bottom

If you click on the icon @ a dropdown menu will appear where you can highlight the option “Highlight No Follow Links”.

Then, activating this facility, go into any site to check whether the link to your page is a No Follow one.
When your link is highlighted with this inscription, you will realise immediately that it is a useless No Follow link...

I have already started deleting some useless external links, and you? |
